Maybe In Heaven

Maybe Heaven is not exactly what we imagine it is
Maybe everyone gets into Heaven, eventually
Maybe only the worst of the worst go to Hell
And even then only for a while

Maybe by the time you get to Heaven, Hitler is still in Hell
But Genghis Khan is out

Maybe in Heaven famous people are still famous
Living mostly separate from the non-famous people

Maybe it's difficult to see what is happening back on Earth
Maybe you just hear rumors now and then
Or get news from new people coming in to Heaven

Maybe people who have been in Heaven for a while treat new people differently
Maybe there is tradition

There certainly aren't poor people
Or extremely rich people
But maybe there are still people who have more than others
And people who have less

Maybe we still need to eat
Not that we ever get too hungry
But maybe we still need to eat now and then

Maybe there's still medicine
And sickness
Nothing serious of course
Maybe just head colds and occasional diarrhea
Maybe we still have to use the bathroom

I'm sure there's no real pain
But maybe sometimes still, discomfort

Maybe with so many people in Heaven it's impossible to be lonely
But maybe with so many people in Heaven
It's difficult to ever be alone

I'm sure everyone is very nice and kind
But maybe only outwardly
Maybe inside some people feel rejection
Now and then

Maybe there's money or at least some form of currency
Something that gives people a need or reason or drive to earn
Maybe there are goals to achieve
Maybe there are things to lose

Maybe God only comes around now and then
Just to check up on things
He doesn't stay long though
Or take questions

Moorings

The captain stood with his first mate. His hands gripping the ship's rail, his body rigid as the ship dipped and rose with the ocean swell. The captain's gaze was locked onto the distant strip of blue sky caught between the horizon and the gray blanket of clouds overhead.

The captain's first mate stood along side, his stature slightly reduced, as if reflecting his diminished rank. After a long silence the captain inhaled deeply, his body stretching as if to speak words that were being forced from the inside out. But no sound was made. Instead he exhaled and his chin sank slightly, as if dragged down by the unspoken words sinking back into his soul.

"Captain?" His first mate responded, hoping to force the words out into the open for the benefit of them both.

The captain eyes narrowed, his gaze became ever more focused, his jaw clenched and released as he prepared to finally speak the words that he could not before.

The captain inhaled again, closed his eyes and uttered his words: "The cheese stands alone."

"Yes sir."
